Big Red
Its just under 40 kilometers from Birdsville to Big Red, Australia’s most famous sand dune. It’s also the place where the Simpson Desert really starts.
We crossed our first dune and headed towards the western side of Big Red. This is the side where most people attempt to climb it in their vehicles.
Until you climb Big Red yourself its hard to understand the scale of it. From the photo the people on top are barely visible. To drive up Big Red there were several routes, some easy some looked more challenging. I stuck to what I was comfortable with and got up first go.
